Steps Forward

March 12, 2025

It was about six years ago when twelve-year-old Debo was met with a choice. To walk away from the life he'd been living or continue down that road towards pain and destruction. Debo had just been caught breaking into a home and stealing money and a gun. Nez and William took him to a local leader and business owner, a man who had grown up in Selma and could speak some truth to him in a way he could understand. Debo was presented with that ultimatum, and it was really from that point on that we noticed a shift in Debo. For the past six years, Debo has consistently put one foot in front of the other. Three years ago, Debo gave his life to the Lord and followed Him in baptism, and he continues to come to Bible study, diving into the Scriptures and asking deep questions about God and his faith. Though his walk hasn't been without hardships and difficulty, we have seen such growth in him and are so grateful to walk alongside of him.

Debo is incredibly smart and hardworking. He struggled to attend school after the pandemic, so the school suggested that because of his age, he should work towards getting his GED. Because we weren't able to get some of his papers until he turned 18, it has felt like a long time coming, but as of two weeks ago he is officially enrolled and attending adult education courses at the local community college. He hopes to obtain his GED and enroll in the welding program at the school. We are so excited for him and proud of this step he has taken. God has such great plans for Debo's life and we get to witness the unfolding of them.

Seeds of Hope will meet people in the crossroads, in that point of intersect, where that young man is making a decision to continue down the path that leads to destruction or turn away and walk in the calling God has for him. We hope and pray there are many "Debos" God brings our way we can provide the support and direction they may need.
